Remote, hybrid, or on-site: choosing without regret

The arrangement listed on a job post is a lifestyle decision disguised as a logistics detail.

Remote Best for autonomy and geography-independent pay. Costs you incidental visibility. Compensate by writing more: decisions, updates, and summaries are how remote workers become known.

Hybrid The default in most large employers. Ask exactly which days are anchored and whether they are enforced — "flexible hybrid" often means three fixed days.

On-site Still the fastest apprenticeship model for early-career and hands-on roles. Trade travel time for proximity to the people who make decisions.

The question to ask in interviews "How were the last two promotions on this team distributed across remote and in-office staff?" The answer tells you more than any policy page.
